South-East Coast of Crimean peninsula

Alushta - Sudak - Feodosia

South-east Crimea begins from Alushta. Even for many Russians this region is «terra incognita». The climate is dry: near the town of Sudak the average annual precipitation 300 mm. The sea at coast is rather shallow and beaches are pebbled. The massif Karabi (mountain plateau) dominating over East Crimea is the place the heart of a cave explorer beats for. It is territory of ancient volcanoes, tall beech woods, medieval fortresses, cozy bays.
Here in Novyi Svet (New World, small resort, west from Sudak) the outstanding wine maker prince Lev Golitsyn organized champagne production. This champagne in 1900 on exhibition in France has won the gold medal
The majestic Genoese fortress in Sudak is the most preserved one out of Genoa. Further to the east there is the city of Feodosia: the sand beach, the remnants of Kaffa - the capital of Italians in Crimea, a great medieval city with the population of 70 000 at the time.
